  320.   The NHL and the International Ice Hockey Federation have agreed to work 
  321. out a way for the league to suspend play for at least part of the 1998 
  322. Winter Games so its players can compete for their national teams, 
  323. commissioner Gary Bettman said. The NHL wants to enhance the league's 
  324. stature and marketability and a Dream Tournament format ôwould focus more 
  325. attention on hockey than before,ö Bettman said. The NHL Players' 
  326. Association also must be consulted, but Bettman doesn't expect that to be 
  327. a stumbling block. The 1998 Games are in Nagano, Japan.

  330. the addition of women's ice hockey to the list of official medal events at

  1145.   The USENET Hockey Pool is in its 7th year of operation.  Last season, 
  1146. there were 261 teams from literally all over the world: every Canadian 
  1147. province, about 30 of the 50 U.S. states, and nine other countries in 
  1148. Europe and Asia.
  1149.   The pool operates like a stock market.  You start off with 1000 points 
  1150. to "buy" the players of your team.  You can sell and buy players during 
  1151. the season based upon their current point performance.  Transactions are 
  1152. made by sending email messages, and standings are posted to 
  1153. rec.sport.hockey on a weekly basis.
  1154.   This year's pool will begin in early September, with an entry deadline

  1276. period started in the '83-'84 season.

  1280.  A: In the Wales Conference finals in 1988, the coach of the New Jersey 
  1281. Devils was very upset with the calls of referee Koharski. At the end of 
  1282. the game, the two met in the runway to the dressing room. Besides the 
  1283. arguing, Schoenfeld was accused of bumping Koharski (he may have tripped 
  1284. by catching his skate off of the runway carpet). More words followed, with 
  1285. Koharski claiming that Schoenfeld pushed him and Schoenfeld calling him 
  1286. "You fat pig! Go have another Doughnut!" etc. The result was a one game 
  1287. suspension of Schoenfeld by the league. NJ management challenged the 
  1288. suspension by going outside the league and getting a court injunction 
  1289. rendering the suspension invalid (remember this is playoff time). The 
  1290. referees for the next game decided not to call the game, and after an hour 
  1291. delay, New Jersey's off-ice officials dressed and the game was played. NJ 
  1292. beat Boston in that game. Schoenfeld served the suspension the next game 
  1293. since the game was in NJ. Boston ended up winning the series 4-3.
